Eating Vegan in Mexico City

I’ll be the first to admit I fell in love with Mexico City from the moment I arrived but after I found out about the sheer number of vegan eateries in the city, I was swooning over the place.

Today I’m bringing you my top picks for eating vegan in Mexico City; a Mexico City restaurant guide.

Vegamo (Centro)

I ate at Vegamo Centro almost every single day while we were in Mexico City. This 100% vegan restaurant was conveniently located just a minutes walk from our apartment and proved a super affordable option for eating in the city.

Over the month I tried almost everything on the menu with my favourite things being;

  • Mocha Frappe

  • Falafel burger

  • Breakfast bagel

  • Breakfast waffle (Chewbacca waffle)

  • Chocolate croissant

Honestly, there is nothing I wouldn’t recommend from here. It was all super delicious. The staff spoke both English and Spanish which was great for us and we honestly were sad to leave this place behind.

Address: Revillagigedo 47, Col. Centro, Del. Cuauhtemoc, Mexico D.F.

Vegamo Bakery

Although I can’t speak highly enough of Vegamo Centro, their Roma Norte location, Vegamo Bakery needs to up it’s game. Don’t get me wrong, the food here is wonderful but make sure to go in person. I tried to order 5 times off Uber Eats for this place and every single time they didn’t accept or cancelled my order! Because of this, I only tried the Italian Sandwhich here. It was delicious and I highly recommend it but don’t bother ordering from the app.

Address: Chihuahua 142. Col. Roma Norte, Del. Cuauhtemoc, Mexico D.F.

Vegan Inc

Vegan Inc has a few locations across CDMX; I visited the one in Polanco. The food here is incredible. They have an awesome range of options from “healthy style” tacos, to burgers and more. The BBQ burger is good but the tacos are great. There really is something for everyone here.

Visit Vegan Inc in person at one of their many locations, or you can get delivery via the Uber Eats app.

Address: Miyana, Av Ejército Nacional 769, Granada, Miguel Hidalgo, 11520 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico (one of multiple locations)

Fat Vegan

The food here is incredible, if you like food with a bit of kick to it. Everything I tried from here was (in my opinion) moderately to extremely spicy. Although not to my personal taste (because of the spice), I can recognise good food when I try it and this is good food.

It’s called Fat Vegan for a reason; with burgers, giant milkshakes, fries and more. Probably not a place to eat at every day but definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Again, Fat Vegan do also deliver via Uber Eats if you’re not up for heading out!

Plantasia

Yes, you heard right! Vegan Asian food in Mexico is entirely possible thanks to Plantasia. This restaurant is 100% vegan and offers a range of vegan dishes from Sushi to Pad Thai, Noodles and more. They also have an excellent range of deserts available.

I tried the Pad Thai, Paneer Butter Masala and the Matcha Brownie (more than once, I have to admit!) and I couldn’t have asked for better Asian food in CDMX. The reviews for this place on Happy Cow are awesome and they are awesome for a reason. The food here is excellent and highly recommended.

Again, delivery is available from here via Uber Eats.

Pizza Futura

Located right next door to Plantasia is Pizza Futura. Another 100% vegan restaurant specialising in, you guessed it, Pizzas! I only got to go here once on my trip to CDMX and had a plain margarita pizza which was good. Not the best ever but still good for vegan pizza. Looking at the reviews over on Happy Cow it seems they have some excellent mushroom pizzas if you go during the right season. Unfortunately this wasn’t available on the menu at my time of visiting but if I ever re-visit CDMX, I’ll definitely re-visit Pizza Futura.

Gracias Madre Taqueria Vegana

A small food truck located in Roma Norte, not to be missed! This hidden gem offers a range of vegan tacos all at extreamly affordable prices (I paid around $30 (pesos) per taco). Menu items include alambre (veggies with wheat bacon); red chorizo (mushrooms & chickpeas); chicharron in green sauce made of wheat; gringa (cheese & pastor); lentil soup. You can pay an extra few pesos to add cheese to anything - I recommend adding this! You can add all of your own toppings and they even have a few vegan deserts. I recommend trying the “snickers” bar they sell.

Mora Mora

Mora Mora is a 100% vegan outlet with several location across Mexico City. I ate a couple of times from the Roma location.

They have a generally healthy menu with things such as açai bowls, smoothies, avocado toast, vegetable sandwiches, juices and more.

I had the avocado toast from here a couple of times and thought it was pretty good, along side the açai bowl which was delicious. I wasn’t a fan of the smoothies, however. Their smoothies contain spices which for me, overrode the taste of everything else in the drink. But do give it a go, you may like it!

Address: Amsterdam 171, Colonia Condesa, Cuauhtémoc, 06100 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico (one of multiple locations)

These are all of the places I went to and ate at, however, Mexico City is a vegans paradise with over 200 vegan friendly restaurants in the city. Check them all out on Happy Cow here.
