Mexico is full of life, beautiful landscapes, and an unmatchable culture. In order to uncover these gems, you need to explore more than just resorts. From ancient Mayan ruins to the gorgeous natural coastal arch in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico sits at one of my favorite places in the world to explore. Yucatan Peninsula

The Yucatan Peninsula is definitely at the top of my list as one of the prettiest places in Mexico! If you are looking for a destination filled with gorgeous beaches, ancient ruins, and culture, the Yucatan Peninsula is something I highly recommend checking out! Its underwater life is one of the best snorkeling and diving sites in the world!

From crocodiles, to sea turtles, whale sharks to monkeys, its wildlife isn’t one I suggest skipping out on. Its stunning coastline is one you will undeniably swoon over, and it has some insane cenotes we cannot even find the words to describe. If you are looking to spend a day anywhere in Mexico, I highly recommend making a trip here. 

El Arco in Cabo San Lucas

Located at the tip of Baja Peninsula, the arch of Cabo San Lucas is distinctly known for its appearance on postcards around the world. This unique and gorgeous site is open to visitors and home to wild sea life. Look out for the sea lions! Naturally formed by geological shifts, this is the location where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean.

By snorkeling, glass-bottom boat adventures, hiking, and even sailing, there are a ton of different ways you can enjoy the sunrise or sunset at El Arco. Its gorgeous views and impressive beaches are just some of the reasons why we love Cabo San Lucas as much as we do! The natural beauty of El Arco is why it sits at the top of my list for the prettiest places in Mexico. 

Sumidero Canyon

Searching for some incredible views? My top pick for an indescribable adventure is the Sumidero Canyon, located in Chiapa de Corzo. The canyon, which was formed by the erosion of the Grijavla River and the earth’s cracks, was created naturally over 35 million years ago. The canyon features rapids, waterfalls, beaches, freshwater springs, a cofferdam, and diverse endangered wildlife. The aerial views are absolutely swoon worthy! There is a reason why the Sumidero Canyon was nominated for the list of the top 7 New Natural Wonders of the World!

Plaza de Armas

If you’re looking for a cultural, historic attraction, well, look no further! The Plaza de Armasin Morelia offers an incredible exploration for the travel seeking adventurists. The city was founded in 1514, and is one of the most gorgeous architectural sites in Mexico. On top of its architectural beauty, the city itself has been preserved in its natural state and represents traditional heritage. This one is great for any explorer who loves history, architecture, gorgeous cityscapes, and is dying to experience the culture of Mexico. 

The Pyramids of Teotihuacan 

This mysterious ancient city has no known origin story or builder. Who doesn’t love a good mystery? It’s often referred to as the “place where gods were created”, and is considered to be sacred. My favorite pyramid? The Pyramid of the Sun, the largest pyramid in Teotihuacan, rises at around 216 feet above the ground. It is reported that this pyramid was constructed around 200 AD. 

These gorgeous pyramids are truly indescribable monuments I highly recommend visiting in person. A picture on a postcard won’t do these gems any justice! Located 50 km northeast of Mexico City, this city and its artifacts hold cultural and religious value.

Tulum

Known for its gorgeous beaches and crystal clear blue water, Tulum is definitely a destination I wouldn’t suggest skipping out on. If you can schedule in a trip, definitely do! From the coastline ruins to its majestic turquoise waters, Tulum is packed with adventure and sights to see. Its picture-perfect scenery is one you’ll want to grab your camera for.

Head over to Playa Ruinas if you’re looking for Ancient Mayan ruins, caves, beautiful cliffs, and some gorgeous sand. Akumal Beach is absolutely stunning! This upbeat beach has food, drinks, and sea-life we can’t help but swoon over. Tulum and its community has a ton to offer every explorer, from its landscapes, history, to even its culture. 

Copper Canyon

I cannot recommend checking out the Copper Canyon, also known as Mexico’s “grand canyon”, enough. There aren’t too many natural wonders in the world like this one, so if you have the chance to visit it, I honestly suggest you do! The Copper Canyon is located in Sierra Madre Occidental, and 6 rivers created its naturally steep canyon walls. Looking for a real adventure? Tour the canyon via horseback, the views and the journey are well worth it.

Puerto Escondido

If small, gorgeous sleepy beach towns are your thing, you’ll love Puerto Escondido. This little town on the Oaxacan cost is friendly, affordable, beautiful and a top surf destination for both beginners and experts alike. It’s also here you can participate in the daily turtle release down on the beach!

Las Mil Cascadas

Directly translating to “One Thousand Waterfalls” Las Mil Cascadas is around a 2.5 hour drive from Mexico City and is 1000% worth the ride. The park isn’t too easy to get to and is still relatively unknown (even locals in CDMX didn’t know about it) so you can enjoy the stunning blue and green waters without the crowds.
